Associate's Degree

An associate’s degree comes under the broad banner known as an undergraduate degree. In general these take as few as two years to complete, although on occasion these might take three years, depending on the area of study. The degree consists of three parts:

  • General education
  • A major field of study
  • Elective classes

Together these lead to the necessary credit hours to gain an associate’s degree. It is possible to gain this qualification at a community college, business college, trade school or online college. Once completed, an associate’s degree offers the choice of entering the workforce or you can then transfer into a bachelor’s program with potentially a further year or two until completion.

Associate’s degrees are available in a multitude of different subjects. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that in 2 years, you can train for some of the fastest growing jobs in the economy, increase your earnings, and pave the way for further education (source: http://www.bls.gov/opub/ooq/2002/winter/art01.pdf).
