What’s it all about?
Conflict management is all about understanding why people act in the way they do when under pressure, and learning the skills to help diffuse a situation and come to a peaceful resolution. Because human emotions sometimes make people act in a very irrational manner, the ability to be able to distance yourself and remain calm is a necessity. You’ll learn about the three stages of conflict – the origin, mediation and negotiation, followed by the peacemaking, or resolution, stage. Your training will incorporate both the necessary theoretical skills and how to put them into practice, along with some in-depth learning into non-verbal communication, psychology, philosophy and certain legal aspects as well.

What will I learn?
Taking an online conflict management course will provide you with exactly the same education as that of a physical university. And while each individual course will have its own way of presenting the syllabus, you can expect to cover the following:

  • Non-verbal communication and human body language
  • Group interactivity and human communication
  • Third-party conflict intervention and multi-party negotiation
  • The psychological aspects of group communication and interaction
  • Alternative methods of dispute and conflict resolution
  • Various legal aspects to do with violent situations
  • Religion and other outside influences and how they relate to conflict

How will I learn?
Taking an online conflict resolution qualification will follow the same path as that of a bricks and mortar school – the only difference being that your home is your classroom and that your work and assignments are delivered to you via the internet. Your lectures and tutorial are likely to be uploaded for you to watch at your convenience, and various assignments will be delivered to you via email. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to communicate with your teachers and fellow students via email, and usually a forum and/or message board as well. You might also have the opportunity to attend live webinars and have chats using online tools. It’s likely that your school will also take full advantage of online video to present various aspects of your conflict management course.

After gaining my degree, what options are open to me for employment?
One of the best things about taking a course in conflict resolution is how adaptable it is to almost every career or employment opportunity. Because the skills taught are so diverse they can be used in a whole host of work situations. Of course, the careers that spring immediately to mind are those such as counseling and mediation, along with front line services such as the police force. However other professions also make full use of those with these sought after skills, including business negotiation, litigation, education, corporate contracting and public policy. And this list is by no means exhaustive. Whatever field you work in or hope to work in, you’ll find that conflict management training will be highly regarded by almost every employer.

An online conflict management course is ideally suited for those who already have other life commitments. Whatever these might be – perhaps you’re holding down a full time job, have taken a career break to bring up a family or perhaps you just want to improve your employment chances, the ability to study online really does lend itself to those who aren’t able or don’t want to return to full time education.
